About ColumbiaWalks

ColumbiaWalks was founded by Callie Thompson as a community initiative for walking-safety in the Borough of Columbia, Pennsylvania. Robert Thompson provides Information Technology, including development of the website, reporting application, mapping, and supporting infrastructure. Our thanks to additional friends old and new as early advocates, sounding boards and focus for this initiative.

The project gives residents a practical way to raise awareness on citizen experiences from unsafe crossings, speeding, aggressive drivers, sidewalk hazards, accessibility barriers, poor lighting, school-route concerns, and other conditions that affect citizens and visitors traveling on foot.

The reporting tools are designed to meet people where they are.

QUICK allows a concern to be recorded with minimal effort. PixOfShame is a focused driver-behavior report that privately collects a vehicle description, license plate, photograph, and comments for review. Full Report offers detailed, category-specific questions. Identifying evidence is not automatically published. Data gathering is intended to support community advocacy through data-backed decision making to support prioritization of resources, educational needs and areas for improvement.

ColumbiaWalks also celebrates walking as a healthy way to experience our borough! Historic walking tours are maintained as a separate experience from safety reporting, connecting residents and visitors with Columbia’s architecture, historical sites, river heritage, parks, and neighborhood stories.
